It started in a living room
Sophibooks began in 2021 in a house in Cedar Park, with a couple of boxes of books and a stubborn belief that every one of them deserved a reader.
Two teachers and a lot of boxes
Our founders are both former high school teachers. They spent years watching students go without books they needed and colleagues pay out of their own pockets to fill classroom shelves. That is not an abstract problem when you have lived it — it is the reason this shop exists.
What began as a home-based venture is now a bookstore at Lakeline Mall. Two storefronts side by side, in fact: children's books on one side, teen and adult titles next door, so families can browse together without anyone being dragged around.
The Fill a Bag Sale
Our signature event. You pay $35 for a bag and fill it with as many books as you can fit — usually around 25, which works out at roughly $1.40 each. Bags are provided.
Nothing is alphabetized. Nothing is sorted. It is a treasure hunt, not a library, and the digging is genuinely half the fun. We restock every single morning, so the last day is never leftovers.

Books should be affordable
Everyone deserves access to reading, whatever their budget. We keep prices low on purpose, not as a promotion.
Nothing should be wasted
Every donated book we rehome is one less in landfill. Second-hand is not second best.
A shop is a gathering place
We are a hub for readers, families and anyone who still thinks a physical book is worth holding.
Teachers deserve better
We came from classrooms. Affordable books for educators is not a side project for us.
Where our books come from
Most of our pre-loved stock arrives through donations. People across Central Texas hand us their shelves — books, CDs, DVDs, vinyl, puzzles — and we give them somewhere new to go.
We collect for free, from Waco down to San Antonio. Leave your boxes out by 8am and we come to you. It costs you nothing, and it keeps a remarkable amount of paper out of landfill.
What we cannot sell affordably, we donate on — to schools, to libraries, to little free libraries like the one above.
And now, online
For years you had to walk through our door to buy from us. Not any more. Thousands of titles are now on the website, new and pre-loved side by side, across more than fifty genres — with the same prices and the same stubbornness about making books reachable.
The shop is not going anywhere. The website is simply for the days you cannot get to Cedar Park.
