Frequently asked questions
The Fill a Bag Sale, free book pickup, and everything else people ask us.
Fill a Bag Sale
How does the Fill a Bag Sale work?
You pay $35 for a bag and fill it with as many books as you can fit. Bags are provided. That works out at roughly 25 books, about $1.40 each.
When is the next sale?
Labor Day weekend: Saturday 5 September (10am–6pm), Sunday 6 September (12pm–6pm) and Monday 7 September (11am–6pm). Full details on the Fill a Bag Sale page.
Should I come more than one day?
Plenty of people do. We restock every single morning, so the third day is not leftovers.
Are the books organised?
No, and that is on purpose. Nothing is alphabetized and nothing is sorted. It is a treasure hunt, not a library. Come with time and a sense of adventure.
What kinds of books are there?
Board books, picture books, early readers, chapter books, middle grade, YA, romance, romantasy, fantasy, fiction, non-fiction, religion, cookbooks and more. Over 20,000 in total.
Where is the sale held?
SOPHIBOOKS at Lakeline Mall, Cedar Park. We have two storefronts side by side — children’s books on one side, teen and adult titles next door. One bag works in both.
Free book pickup
Do you really collect books for free?
Yes. There is no cost to you. We collect from your door and rehome everything at no charge.
What do you accept?
Books, audiobooks, CDs, DVDs, VHS, vinyl records, board games, puzzles, video games and more. Hard or soft, old or new, any subject. Most conditions are welcome, from like-new to well-loved — please recycle anything mouldy or badly damaged.
Where do you collect from?
Across Central Texas, from Waco down to San Antonio, including Austin, Round Rock, Georgetown, Cedar Park, Temple, San Marcos and New Braunfels.
Do I need to be home?
No. Leave your items out by 8am and we collect between 8am and 8pm.
How do I book one?
Fill in the form on the Give Your Books page and we will contact you to confirm a time. You can book a one-off collection or set up a recurring pickup.
Shouldn’t I donate to my library instead?
If you want to support your local library directly, please do — we encourage it. But libraries have restrictions and often cannot take textbooks, old editions or large quantities. We do not have those limits, and we also collect from libraries when they need to clear space.
