Description
UNIQUE ORIGINAL GEOLOGICAL FIELD SURVEY MANUSCRIPT
"Report on the Geology of The Delaware Watergap Region"
By E.H. Waentig, 1935

This is a one-of-a-kind primary source scientific document —
a hand-assembled geological field survey of the Delaware Water
Gap region created in 1935, comprising:

- Tens of hand-colored geological maps of the region
- Original field photographs mounted with hand-lettered captions
documenting rock formations, bedding dips, anticline structures,
and escarpment features on both the Pennsylvania and New Jersey sides
- Hand-colored stratigraphic column (Structure Section of Del.
Watergap Region) showing complete geological sequence from
Pre-Cambrian through Devonian — Hamilton ss., Marcellus sh.,
Tuscarora Qtze., Martinsburg sl., Beckmantown dol. and more
- Technical engineering diagrams of regional slate quarry
operations, including wire-saw cross-sections with labeled parts
- Typewritten text with handwritten annotations throughout
- Cloth-bound, bolt-fastened cover

The level of geological and technical detail indicates the author
was a trained geologist or advanced geology student — the notation
"E.H. Waentig '37" on the cover suggests a class of 1937 graduation.
The Delaware Water Gap was a major field study location for
Northeastern geology programs in the 1930s.

There is no other copy of this document. It cannot be reproduced.
It is a primary source artifact of American geological and
regional history from the New Deal era.
